Job Description

Location: Motor Vehicle Division building, Ankeny, Iowa 
 
Shift Requirements: Monday through Friday; flexible schedule available 
 
As an Attorney 2 for the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), your duties will include, but are not limited to:
 - Review and analyze legislation affecting the Motor Vehicle Division’s operations 
 - Draft legislative amendment language and present it to multiple stakeholders and interested parties 
 - Lead the reviewing and drafting of all MVD administrative rule chapters, which includes gathering   stakeholder input, presenting changes to the Administrative Rules Review Committee, and completing the required analyses following all legal requirements 
- Provide legal review of regulations, laws, and policies affecting MVD operations and share written and verbal analysis with DOT leadership 
- Serve as the liaison to the Attorney General’s Office on legal issues pertaining to MVD operations and policies
- Analyze and compare Iowa MVD policies and operations to other state DMVs to assist in legal analysis and present findings to DOT leadership

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of law, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in the practice of law; not including experience as a law clerk.
  2. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work with the employing agency in the practice of law; not including experience as a law clerk.
