Job Description

Location: District 1 Office, Ames 
 
Shift: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
 
As an Engineering Office Assistant 2, you will be providing support to the maintenance garages and management.

In this position, you will: 
  • Serve as the assistant to the District Maintenance Manager, District operations Manager and District Executive Officer.  
  • Support the Highway Maintenance Supervisors, garage personnel, District Paint Crew and Bridge Repair Crew staff.  
  • Be responsible for working with a variety of departments in the Central Complex to ensure that proper procurement, tracking practices are followed for goods and services used by the maintenance garages.  
  • Maintain formal agreements with other state agencies, other states, counties, and cities.
  • Establish and maintain vendor accounts.  
  • Create and maintain databases and spreadsheets to be used for analysis, tracking, and monitoring a variety of business functions.  
  • Administer Adopt-A-Highway program for the district. 
  • Assist the district in the hiring process.
  • Process the hiring documents in Workday.
  • Serve as the first contact with the public for questions or concerns on the services we provide or the assets we maintain. 
  • Operate computer programs such as MS Office programs, Workday, Fleetio, and internally developed software programs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

 

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. All of the following (a and b):
    1. Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency; and
    2. A total of five years of full-time experience in highway design, maintenance, construction, or materials; or administrative support in inventory management, training programs, administrative recordkeeping or closely related areas.
  2. A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as an Engineering Office Assistant 1 or three years of full-time work experience in highway design, maintenance, construction, or materials.
