This is a third shift position, schedule is 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, Sunday through Friday. The starting wage for this position is $24.75 an hour plus shift differential.

While a CDL permit is required upon hire, you must have your Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL within 5 months following your appointment. CDL Training for Iowa DOT employees is provided!! Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not already possess a Class A and endorsements / restrictions CDL for positions that require it. Those eligible will receive both hands-on Behind-the-Wheel Range and Road training, with web-based Theory training, to fulfill required state and federal regulations.
Location: Coralville Maintenance Garage - Within five (5) months, employees are required to reside within 45 minutes driving time, during normal conditions, from assigned work location.
Shift: 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, Sunday through Friday, hours may vary and subject to call 24 hours a day during emergency and / or weather conditions; occasional overnight travel
You’ll work with a great team dedicated to improving Iowa roads by:
Leading and supporting IDOT in day-to-day activities including, but not limited to:
- mowing / cutting brush
- disposing of litter and debris
- repairing roadside waterways
- operating snow equipment
- grading / paving projects
- assisting paint / bridge crews
- overseeing traffic control for Maintenance activities
- performing routine maintenance and service of DOT equipment and vehicles
- using DOT technical devices and software applications
May be required to obtain pesticide/herbicide certifications or other certifications as needed

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency, and experience equal to four years of fulltime work in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing.
2) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of post-high-school education in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Highway Technician or Construction Technician.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twenty-four months of full-time work as a Highway Technician Associate.
