Assistant Survey Party Chief
This assistant survey party chief position is on a preliminary survey crew in the survey section within the Design Bureau. This team is responsible for obtaining engineering survey information needed to develop highway improvement projects on the primary road and interstate systems. The assistant survey party chief performs technical engineering survey work. This position requires skills and knowledge in engineering survey procedures and electronic data collection techniques. Typical responsibilities include collecting topographic survey data, performing survey computations, as well as collecting, formatting, and editing electronic field data. This position requires skills that include excellent communication, , knowledge of electronic data collectors, and knowledge of electronic data collection procedures, some CADD mapping and GNSS operation is required. Applicants must have experience using survey instruments including electronic total stations, global positioning equipment, survey levels, and a thorough understanding of feature and linking codes. Bentley MicroStation software is used.
Travel: In-state overnight travel can be required.
License: Driver’s License Required.
Preferred experience
- basic experience in producing CADD drawings.
- Prior use of traditional survey equipment including GNSS devices.
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work outdoors year around in all weather conditions.
- Post offer, pre-employment physical.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Three years of full-time work experience in engineering survey, which included the operation of survey instruments.
2) A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in civil engineering, construction engineering, or photogrammetry equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work in survey, construction, maintenance, or design as a Highway Technician Associate, Highway Technician, Highway Technician Senior, Construction Technician Assistant, Construction Technician, or Construction Technician Senior.

Additional Qualification Requirements
- All positions are required to have and maintain a minimum of a valid Class C Non-Commercial Operator's License.
